Sony Reader

Just out the Sony Reader is a digital ebook reader platform like Amazon’s Kindle. Based on a memory card storage of e books that you can download, you can carry it anywhere and carry a complete library with you. Amazon’s Kindle has approximately 250,000 e books available, but the Sony Reader has an amazing 1,000,000 (i.e. one million, but I just like spelling out all those zero’s!) ebooks available.

An ultra-sharp and ultra bright screen enables reading in most lighting conditions and good battery life is essential of course on a device that will probably be used frequently, and often on long journeys.

Now upgraded with Wi-Fi and the post-iphone compulsory sexy ‘touchscreen’ interface, it’s a sophisticated platform that maybe, just maybe finally makes the real, practical portable digital paperback concept a reality.

The Sony Reader Website has more information, but we like this, not least because of the ONE MILLION (did I mention that already? ;) ebooks in the ‘library’.

You can order one from Waterstones HERE – they are taking pre-orders NOW and will have more stock and have them out sooner than anyone else.

Waterstones also have a full range of eBooks available PLUS order now from them and get a FREE copy of Dan Brown’s latest Book!

Store 100s, even 1000s, of eBooks

With a Reader you can carry an entire library of books in your bag, so you always have a huge choice of what to read and when to read it. Take 100s of eBooks with you wherever you go (or 1000s of eBooks with optional memory card on some models) and you’re ready for any journey.

Read for hours on the paper-like screen

New digital book readers from Sony use an innovative E Ink® Vizplex™ screen which means it’s just like reading a paper page. It has high contrast, high resolution and a wide viewing angle. What’s more there’s no backlight and no flickering so it’s gentle on your eyes and you can read for hours even in bright sunlight.

Get a huge choice of eBooks

A Reader is easy to use just like an MP3 player. Download books and quickly transfer them from your PC or Mac to your Reader using a hi-speed USB connection. You can get eBooks from the websites of leading bookstores or legally download free eBooks from selected websites. You can even borrow books online from local public libraries.

Support for multiple file formats

Reader supports EPUB, the most versatile type of eBook format, so you’re not restricted to buying eBooks from only one place. It also supports lots of other eBook formats and file formats such as Adobe® PDF, Microsoft® Word, image and music files so you can read most types of documents – even listen to music as you read.

Lightweight & colourful design

Digital book readers from Sony are slim, lightweight and easy to take anywhere. The new Pocket and Touch Editions are available in a range of stylish colours. You can also add accessories including covers in a choice of colours and materials to personalise your Reader.

Low energy use for a long battery life

Reader from Sony has a low energy consumption which means you can keep turning page after page, around 6,800 page turns or 7,500 for a Reader Touch Edition™. That’s enough to finish the most epic book or longest trip without having to re-charge the battery.
